About
The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM), founded in 1551, is recognized as the most important public university in Peru, has more than 30,000 students in 65 degree programs, 3,124 professors, 2,892 employees and $ 4.8 million in R&D expenses. The UNMSM has the largest number of researchers qualified by the National Council of Science and Technology (CONCYTEC), there are 534 researchers, which represents more than 10% of the total number of qualified researchers in Peru. 54% of undergraduate students have studied in public secondary schools, 43% are women and 40% live in marginal areas of Lima and are often the first in their families to attend university.
