Universidad de Piura (UDEP)


The University of Piura (UDEP) is a private institution and important reference in higher education.It was founded in Piura on April 7, 1969, as an initiative of St. Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer and Piura's community.


Mission

The University of Piura proposes to contribute to the common good and promote the dignity of the human person, through the search for truth, by developing and transmitting knowledge and integral formation of the members of its community, based on a Christian conception of man and the world.

Vision

The University of Piura aspires to be a reference of excellence in higher education, through vanguard research, innovative pedagogy and the formation of people distinguished by their professional competence, their leadership for social transformation, ethical commitment and human quality.



The integral formation of UDEP is based on the person, by forming not only better professionals, but also better people, with a humanistic and Christian sense committed to a quality education in values.

Considered the best university outside Lima, according to América Economía ranking in 2020, ubicada en el top 6.

Currently there are more than 8,000 undergraduate students distributed in 2 university campus, Piura and Lima.

The university currently has 7 faculties, which offer quality undergraduate and graduate education. The most recognized faculties include the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Communication.

In addition, since 1979, the PAD Management School has been offering professional development alternatives in different training programs for business people and executives.



Green Campus



The University of Piura has 130 hectares of dry forest on campus, which represents more than 30% of the purified air of Piura, providing a comfortable environment for students.


  • The University of Piura has promoted the development of a number of projects aimed at increasing the potential of the Piura Region and the country, with special attention to the region's priority sectors: agribusiness, agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture. Of these, 43 projects were financed by the National Council for Science, Technology and Technological Innovation (CONCYTEC) and 34 by the National Innovation Program for Competitiveness and Productivity of the Ministry of Production - INNÓVATE PERU.

  • The University of Piura has 71 qualified researchers in the RENACYT, 39 of which correspond to the disciplines of engineering and natural sciences. In the last five years, researchers at the University of Piura have published 148 articles in indexed scientific journals.

  • In relation to infrastructure for research, the University of Piura has 3 computer centers for undergraduate and graduate classes, an Automatic Control Systems laboratory equipped with experimental pilot plants, an Electronics laboratory equipped with robot systems, an Electrical Engineering laboratory equipped with a motor bank, an authorized center for scientific research, technological development and technological innovation, a Hydraulics and Hydrology institute and a meteorological station with a specialized rainfall radar.

  • It has a business incubator, Hub UDEP, which for 4 years has been carrying out entrepreneurship and innovation programs impacting more than 20,000 people, advising more than 250 ventures with an average monthly turnover of USD 1'500,000 and an investment of more than USD 530,000.

  • Through an international agreement with the Austral University of Argentina and the IDB Lab, the University of Piura has been implementing the Women In STEM Entrepreneurship - WISE program, training and advising more than 600 Peruvian women entrepreneurs, leaders of projects in STEM areas (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) for the last 3 years.

  • With the financing of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, the Babson Collaborative for Entrepreneurship Education program is implemented with a network of 30 universities worldwide, led by Babson College. More than 2,000 students have been benefited through mentoring, pre-incubation and incubation programs, research and communities such as the UDEP Entrepreneurship Club.
